A profitable surplus is the work of many hands.以农业、渔业、贸易、或者矿业为基础的小型村落支持着希腊城邦及后来的古希腊帝国的发展,为他们提供了所有发展需要的原料。村落只会在有资源出产的地方落成,地理条件最好的那些则会很快发展成城镇。
