Carnutes War Exercises Tier 3
Cavalry Tactics
Any fool can sit on a horse; a warrior thinks before he rides forth.Although Roman writers often refused to acknowledge the skills possessed by the barbarians, there was one area of warfare which they freely admitted the Celts excelled at: horsemanship. The Greek historian Strabo stated that the finest cavalrymen in the whole Roman army were Celts; they were incredibly versatile troops, able to ride to any area they were needed and dismount to fight on foot. This was made easier by the cleverly-designed bridles worn by their horses, which had a small peg for staking into the ground to keep the horse in place while its rider fought.
