Where the land is rich with copper, and not buried deep underground, it can be mined more easily with the creation of a copper pit.

Once a surface copper source is confirmed, conscript labourers excavate a perimeter around it, and dig a series of steps into the ground to provide easy access for miners.

As the pit is mined, it continues to be enlarged outwards until all the copper has been found and extracted or what remains is no longer profitable enough to warrant further manpower and funds.
