Territorial Archers

They may not be trained in the formal ways of war, but battle will teach them... or not.

Most peasants are not taught the ways of war, rather they are handed the implements of battle and pointed in the direction of the enemy. It is thus fortunate that a bow, although difficult to master, is easy enough to use on a fundamental level.

Although these territorial warriors may want for skill, they have a surfeit of zeal - they may draw a clumsy bowstring, but they fire, again and again, with the fiery determination of one defending his home and his life.

Unit Abilities

  • Mastery of Ranged Defence
    When arrows fall like hail, their skin will be as stone before the onslaught!
  • Smoke Screen
    Thick plumes of smoke obscure line of sight, making units seem temporarily invisible.
  • Miasma
    The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
  • Loose
    The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

    Can hide in forests.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Role: rear line
    These troops are best placed at the rear of an army, where they can cause damage from a position of relative safety.
  • Weak against cavalry
    This unit is very vulnerable to cavalry charges, especially to the flanks.
